Today’s outfit is simple, but I think that’s its greatest strength. It has enough visually going on between the track stripes on the arms and the collar. I got it from one of the best favorite places to shop fashion in town– I am, of course, talking about DrugMart. Aside from its bright white track stripes, what struck me about this piece is the fact that it is a bizarre hybrid of hoodie and track suit. Whether I’m hitting the track (I’m not) or I’m hitting the books, this thing fits just about any social situation I find myself in.
“Pretzel Logic”
This is an outfit I like because I’m a big fan of flannel, and I also love the vest. Obviously I’m into the 80’s aesthetic, so when I saw this Marty Mcfly-esque red puffy vest in the thrift store, I knew I needed it. I chose this photo because a long time ago I attached this pin to it, and I wanted to show that off. I don’t normally do a lot with pins, but I think they can occasionally pull a look together in a way that most other accessories can’t.
“Time out of Mind”
I like this outfit a lot because I think the light jacket and graphic T go well together. I’ve had everything in this outfit for awhile, so it’s definitely seen some usage. As far as textures and textiles, I’m a big fan of the combination of things going on for the jacket. It’s got a fleece interior with a grooved polyester shell. I also like how it pairs with my canvas backpack: they both have a similar color and texture.
“Reelin’ in The Years”
Given that this is the last snow of the season (hopefully), I figured I wouldn’t get many more chances to show off one of my favorite winter jackets. This is a leather jacket from a brand called “couture”. Leather is one of my favorite materials given its durability, warmth, and also its general aesthetic. I got this jacket second-hand from a family friend, which helps ease my mind in terms of the ethical issues that are associated with wearing leather. The coat is versatile enough on its own, but I like the look of wearing it with a hoodie underneath. Although I’m happy for the incoming warmer weather, I will be at least a little bummed to be putting this one away for awhile.
Shoutout my roommate George for taking this pic.
“More to Come”
Since the whole premise of my blog is based around a fabric pun, it seems appropriate to highlight some clothes that embody that idea in the first post. I’m interested in textures of textiles, so I always gravitate towards unique materials in outfits. With that in mind, one of the core elements of today’s outfit is the vintage Patagonia capilene pullover in navy blue. This shirt has been around the block more than a few times, but has stood the test of time. Capilene, for those who don’t know what it is (like myself), is a polyester material is reminiscent of a fleece, so it’s warm and it breathes well. The other element in this outfit is the MyTrail down jacket. I don’t normally go for a puff jacket, but this one suits me well. It’s a polyester jacket with a goose down filling, which makes it very lightweight, but also surprisingly warm. Aside from its material merits, I also am a big fan of its simple black color that is greatly complimented by its light-grey trim. In these early days of spring where the weather can change on a dime, this outfit keeps it simple and effective.
